In the spirit of the holidays I thought I’d give my loyal customers and readers a gift to say thank you for your continued support.
I’ve (finally) written down my most requested pattern, it is for my 10 inch cotton dishcloth with a ribbed edge.
This pattern uses a single 2.5oz (120 yards) ball of Peaches & Cream cotton yarn. This is a worsted weight 4 ply 100% cotton yarn and is my favorite for dishcloths, scrubbies, soap saver bags, and pot holders. You could use any worsted weight cotton for this pattern.
You will also need two different sizes of crochet hooks. If you don’t go up at least one size on the ribbed edge it causes the center to distort and ripple to much.
1 ball of cotton yarn
5.0mm crochet hook
6.5mm crochet hook
Yarn Needle (for weaving in the ends)
Terms and Abbreviations
Slip Stitch = Insert your hook into the specific stitch, draw a loop through the stitch and right through the loop on your hook
SC = Single Crochet = Yarn over and draw the yarn through the stitch. Yarn over again and pull through both loops
HDC = Half Double Crochet = Wrap the yarn over your hook from back to front, insert hook into the specified stitch, yarn over again and pull a loop through the stitch (there will be 3 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook.
FPHDC = Front Post Half Double Crochet = Make a HDC (as described above) going around the main part(post) of the stitch in the row below. Work this around the post from the front to the back.
BPHDC = Back Post Half Double Crochet = Make a HDC (as described above) going around the main part(post) of the stitch in the row below. Work this around the post from the back to the front.
*Pattern Note: numbers in () indicate the final stitch count for that row *
*Pattern Note: stitches listed in are all worked in the same stitch*
*Pattern Note: body is worked in rows while the border is worked in rounds*
(using 5.0mm or size H crochet hook)
Foundation Row: Chain 32 (32)
Row 1: HDC 3rd Chain from hook and back down chain (30)
Chain 2 and turn
Row 2: HDC across (30)
Chain 2 and turn
Row 3: To 26: Same as Row 2 (30)
Chain 1 and begin the border
(using 6.5mm crochet hook)
Row 1: SC in each stitch and around all 4 sides
*when creating the corners work a [SC Chain 2 SC] into the corner stitch, this will create a defined corner for the next 2 rows*
Slip stitch last stitch to first stitch and chain 2, do not turn your work.
Row 2: Alternate FPHDC and BPHDC around *when you reach the corner chain spaces you created in the previous row, do not HDC in the chains, instead Chain 2 and continue your FPHDC/BPHDC pattern in the next SC*
Row 3: Continue to alternate FPHDC and BPHDC around in the same way you did in row 2, this creates the ribbed edge *when you reach the corner chain spaces you created in the previous row, do not SC in the chains, instead Chain 3 and continue your HDC pattern in the next HDC*
Tie off weave in ends.
I have also created a condensed printable version of my pattern that you can add to your pattern book or share with friends.
